MG's Guide to Sunscreen
Whether you’re laying out on the beach eating mangos or spending your day by the pool, don’t forget to lather up! It is even good to wear sunscreen throughout the day because most people are not aware of the extra sun exposure they get whether it be from driving your car, sitting on a patio having a drink, or even sitting in fluorescent lighting all-day (fluorescent lighting is in the same family of lights that are used in tanning beds). I know this sounds crazy but even if it is overcast, you are still being exposed to sun damage! Crazy right?
I hate to admit that I just not started wearing sunscreen and only now I know the extent of how important it is. I can even tell a difference in the look and texture of my skin since wearing it every day.
Sunscreen can be your best friend. Just make sure the sunscreen you’re using not only protects your skin from the sun’s UVA and UVB rays but also resists toxic chemicals most sunscreens have in their ingredients.
Most of the MG crew swears by Glossier Invisible Shield sunscreen for everyday use (plus Beyoncé wears it so you know it’s worthy of a living Queen). Glossier’s invisible shield sunscreen is breathable, fresh, and made of natural ingredients such as orange peel & aloe.
Guess what? It happens to also be vegan and cruelty-free! It is important to be aware of the things you are putting on your skin and to do your research on beauty products and to be thoughtful when purchasing.
Some other natural sunscreen options we love are:
Supergoop Glow Screen SPF 40, can be used for face or body ($36)
$36-
Beautycounter Countersun Mineral Sunscreen lotion SPF 30, best used for body ($39)
Drunk Elephant Umbra Tint Physical Daily Defense SPF 30, best used for face ($36)
Botanical Mineral Sunscreen lotion SPF 50, best for face and body ($15.99)
Thinksport Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+, best for body ($12.99)
For everyday day use, sunscreen should be applied right after your morning moisturizer and before you apply your makeup for the day. If you are in the direct sun, then don’t forget to reapply every few hours. This might seem like one extra step in the morning, but your skin will thank you. You have everything to gain from wearing sunscreen, and absolutely nothing to lose!
As I mentioned earlier, do your research and choose a sunscreen that is best for your skin. There are endless options out there. Go have fun, live your life and don’t forget your sunscreen :)
